(02/22/2004)
2:30 AM - A major fire erupted in Spencer Sunday morning.

The early morning fire struck the old Harris Oil Company building on West Main Street. The fire reportedly started in the second story apartments at 2:30 a.m. with neighbors calling 911.

There were no initial reports of injuries to people who might be in the building.

The Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene with pumper trucks.

The building was reported fully-involved by a passer-by.

The building is located on the rear street behind McDonalds and a car wash on U.S. 33-Ripley.

The building was once used as headquarters for Harris Oil for several years.

A caller said the structure once contained oil products which could be flammable.

All of the department's pumper trucks responded to the scene.
