BIDS COULD BE LET ON NEW 911 BUILDING - School Board Donating Lot At Mt. Zion

Calhoun's 911 Director Joe Tanner surveys proposed site of a new 911/Calhoun Control Center on the campus of Calhoun Middle/High School

The Calhoun Commission received six bids yesterday to do the initial construction of a 38 x 40 foot masonry building to house the county's 911 center. The bids are being reviewed by the 911 Advisory Board, who will be making a recommendation to the commission.

The advisory board met last night to begin the review process and complete other details related to construction of the center.

The commission is expected to accept a bid package at the March 1 meeting.

The site is being donated by the Calhoun Board of Education, and is expected to be leased to the county for 99 years. It is located on an acre lot across the road from the bus garage and the county school board office on the Middle/High School campus.

"This project could get underway soon," said Tanner.

The county currently has money to construct the building, but other funds will be needed for completion of the project. Funds will be needed for interior work, a sewage treatment system and a radio tower, among other items.

Tanner says much of 911's debt load has recently been paid off, and the 911 budget is in much better shape.

He expressed thanks to the 911 Advisory Board for their work during the past few months.
