SCHOOL BOARD HAS MONDAY MEETING - Reduction In Force, Expulsion Among Items

The Calhoun County Board of Education met Monday evening.

Here is information from the board minutes:

Mr. Cunningham reported on the January 22, 2004 CGCC meeting, Mrs. Frederick reported on the January 28, 2004 RESA meeting and The Prior Service Policy was approved unanimously.

The Board enter into closed session for an expulsion hearing for student. After returning from the closed session upon the Superintendent's recommendation, Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Simers seconded, that the student be expelled for the remainder of the 2003-04 school year with mandatory monthly drug testing. Motion carried unanimously.

Among items approved on the agenda:

Volunteer Agreement - Amos Walker - CMHS; Home School Requests - Kelly Mace - John Bigger (grade 10), Veronica May - Benjamin King (grade 8); Field Experience Request - WVU; Right of Way Deed problems related to old Mt. Zion School property -Richard and Barbara Whipkey explored; Student Transfer - Chastity Bell (12th grade) from Wirt County to Calhoun County.

The following personnel issues approved:

Resignation/Retirement: Trina Beall - Follies Administrative Assistant, Jean Simers - Retirement - Effective June 30, 2004, and Susan Metheney - Custodian - Effective February 27, 2004

Abolishment of Positions: Kindergarten Teacher - Pleasant Hill (CSRP); Second Grade Teacher - Pleasant Hill (CSRP); Third Grade Teacher - Arnoldsburg (CSRP); and Secretary III - CMHS.

Reductions in Force: Stephanie Carpenter and Kristie Ritchie.
