WISE TRYING TO SAVE ALUMINUM PLANT

Gov. Bob Wise announced Friday that he has filed a legal challenge with the U.S. Department of Justice in connection with the Pechiney plant in Ravenswood. The aluminum plant has several regional employees. The Justice Department has ruled that the new owner, Alcan, had to sell the Ravenswood plant to avoid anti-trust issues. Dozens of jobs are at stake along with retiree benefits. "We have been working for some time with Pechiney and have discovered that very few purchasers would be able to run the plant because of technical and quality complexities associated with aluminum production," Wise said.
