James Kermit "Whiz" Carper, 77 - Spencer

James Kermit "Whiz" Carper, 77, of Spencer, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

He was born June 10, 1926, at Amma, a son of the late Joseph Roland and Hilda James Carper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Skeen.

Mr. Carper was a retired owner and operator of the Western Auto Store, Spencer. He was a member of the Slate United Methodist Church, Spencer and the Clendenin Lodge No. 126, A.F. & A.M., Clendenin. He was also an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ollie Smith Carper of Spencer; two daughters, Linda Tipton of Spencer and Dianna Knight of Camarillo, CA; six grandchildren, Meghan Henry and Jessica Gandee both of California, Brendan Knight of Indiana, Katie Tipton, Lisa Gandee and Brianna Tipton all of Spencer; one great grandchild, McKinley Daughtery of Spencer; one brother, John Carper of Pinch; one sister, Peggy Turner of St. Marys, GA.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer with the Rev. Daniel R. "Danny" Whited officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday February 7 from 6-8 p.m.
