Calhoun County AmeriCorps Project MOVE sponsored a Martin Luther King Jr., contest in January to celebrate his life.

The contest involved Arnoldsburg and Pleasant Hill Elementary Schools. There were 279 total participants, Pre K - 4th Grade. Pre K - 1st Grade colored pictures of Martin Luther King Jr. Second grade created their own "I Have a Dream Too!" speech. Third grade had to write a short story about their dream for a better world. Fourth grade had to write a short story discussing what they would say if they could have a conversation with Martin Luther King Jr.

We had several volunteers from the community to judge all the entries. It was not an easy task for them to do, because all the entries were very good. Certificates of Achievement and Ribbons were given to each 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention winners at each grade level per school.

An overall county 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention winner was selected from all the winning entries from both schools. Students who completed an entry received a certificate of participation.

Calhoun County AmeriCorps Project MOVE members, Jenny Albright and Missy Nicholas would like to thank Donnie Price, principal of Arnoldsburg Elementary and Larry Stinn, Principal of Pleasant Hill Elementary for allowing their students to participate in our contest. We send a special thank you and congratulations to all the students for participating in our contest, because you are all winners in our mind. Thank you to Emma Howell for donating all the ribbons given to the winning entries. Last, but not least, thank you to all the volunteers who judged the entries.
