INFAMOUS WEST VIRGINIA BANK ROBBERIES - Stumbling And Bumbling

Bank robbery, often associated with the wild west and the gangland enterprises of the 1920s and 30s, is becoming a viable 21st century option to supplement income.

Maybe it's the poor economy, all those jobs going to India and Mexico.

West Virginia has produced some infamous bank robbers in recent years, none with the skillful expertise demonstrated in hundreds of Hollywood flicks.

Our bank robbers stumble and bumble into the state's banks, get the dough and depart on bikes, nearby cars, or on foot. They smile at the camera or forget there are such things, to be spotted and caught, shortly.

Last weeks bank robber in Parkersburg returned to get his note taped on the drive-thru window. Guess he was afraid someone would recognize his handwriting. A local policemen, use to spotting suspicious behavior, nabbed him.

Now it's the kids robbing banks.

Berkeley County authorities are looking for two teenagers who robbed an Inwood bank Monday. They walked into City National Bank about 2 p.m. and waited for the customers to leave.

One suspect placed a duffel bag on the counter and yelled at the clerk to give him money, saying he had a gun.

The suspects are described as about five-foot-eight, 130 pounds with short black hair, wearing blue jeans, sneakers and a gray sweatshirt. The other was wearing a faded gray or green sweatshirt with a hood over his head and blue jeans.

When they fled they were seen getting into a dark blue or black Pontiac and traveling toward US Route 11. The car may have been a Firebird or Trans Am.

Since they are of the movie going age, their hold-up might have been slightly more refined than those reported on the Herald these past years.
