JENKINS SAYS "I'M ADDICTED TO THE LAW" - Wants Candidacy Reported In Favorable Light

(02/02/2004)
Perry Jenkins, who filed last week as a candidate for magistrate, said he was concerned that Calhoun voters might be confused he was not a resident of the county, since his address was listed as Rosedale. Jenkins lives in Calhoun.

Jenkins called the Herald, asking for his candidacy be reported in a favorable light.

The Calhoun man had originally filed as a candidate for governor, but said he had difficulty raising funds.

Jenkins said he was grateful for the support given him by Calhoun Chronicle reporter Lisa Minney. "She told me I should run for a smaller office."

"That's what I'm doing," he said.

Jenkins said he felt qualified for the magistrate's office, despite the fact he is poor and not a celebrity.

He was excited the Parkersburg News reporter called him last week, after he filed for magistrate.

"The important thing is to punish the guilty and protect the innocent," he said. "It is not how much education you have, but it is more important what you know."

"I'm addicted to the law, and helped get drug dealers in Akron, Ohio," Jenkins said.

"I really want to get on the people's right side," he concluded.

Jenkins is facing incumbents Teresa Robinson, Rick "Bubba" Postalwait and newcomer Henry "Billy" Mullins in the May Primary.
