Three Calhoun residents were last minute filers Friday for the May primary, according to Circuit Clerk Shelia Garretson.

Prospective candidates can do mail in filings, provided the application is marked before midnight today (Saturday).

Filing for Sheriff was Ivan Holbert (Democrat) of Big Bend. Holbert will face at least three opponents, all Democrats, including Chief Deputy Carl Ballengee, Jeff Smith and Charlie McCroskey.

Henry "Billy" Mullins (Democrat) of Chloe filed for magistrate. He will face Rick "Bubba" Postalwait, Perry Jenkins and Teresa Robinson, with two to be elected.

A fifth candidate has filed for Board of Education, Cynthia Dale of Grantsville (Sherman District). The field includes incumbents Burl Simers and Ralph Cunningham, with newcomers Larry Baker and Sandra McCumbers.
