BAD WEATHER REDUCES TURKEY KILL

(01/08/2004)
Poor weather during the past two spring nesting seasons has resulted in only 1,691 turkeys killed this past fall season.

The DNR says the kill is 40 percent lower than last fall, when 2,808 birds were killed.

Wildlife Section Chief Curtis Taylor says wet, cold weather during the spring nesting season resulted in fewer birds surviving the past two years.

Greenbrier County had the highest number of kills this fall with 248 and Monroe County was next with 186.

Fall turkey hunting was closed in Calhoun and most regional counties.
