GRANTSVILLE LANDMARK GETTING FACE LIFT

(01/05/2004)

Scaffold on back of the Stump Hotel

Work is progressing on the Stump Hotel restoration on Main Street in Grantsville. The project is being completed by the Calhoun Historical Society through a $208,000 HUD grant obtained in 1999 by Congressman Alan Mollohan.

Workers at the site said the project has reached a point where work will increase rapidly.

The project calls for stabilizing and restoring the exterior of the building, including roofing.

After SEM Architectural developed a plan for the overall project, all bids exceeded the amount of money for the project.

The architect returned with a more reasonable plan and a contract was let to Olentangy Restoration. The architectural firm charged $31,156 for their services, which included an additional amount for a scaled down plan.

The project has been under the supervision the Vandalia Society.

The Stump Hotel will provide a pleasant reminder of times past in Grantsville.
