SPENCER PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK - Webb Pushing Shopping Cart

A familiar figure in downtown Spencer died Monday, three days after she was hit while pushing her shopping cart along a city street.

Marjorie Webb, 73, was struck around 5 p.m. Friday while she was walking along Williams Drive, according to Deputy B.R. Anderson of the Roane Sheriff's Dept.

She was apparently on her way home after shopping at Wal-Mart. She was struck while walking along the street adjacent to the softball field.

"She was pushing her shopping cart down the hill," said Anderson. "It was full of groceries."

Marjorie L. Webb, 73, of Spencer died Dec. 29, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, of injuries received in a traffic accident.

She was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Otto, a daughter of the late Beverly "Beve" and Hazel Young Webb. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Deana Webb Green, Dec. 27, 2003; paternal grandparents, Clark and Amy Webb; maternal grandparents, Henry and Eliza Young; and several uncles and aunts.

She formerly worked at Kellwood Company and was a homemaker.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Hershel and Doris Webb of Spencer; nieces, Kristina Green, Janifer Carpenter and Lisa McGlothlin; nephews, Jeffrey and Steve "Porky" Webb; and several cousins in West Virginia and Ohio.

Joint service with her sister, Deana Webb Green, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Otto Cemetery.
