LOOK, UP IN THE AIR, IT'S A MOUNTAIN BIKER - Appalachian Bike Classic "Down Home" Spectator Event - June 16

(03/17/2001)

It is one of Calhoun's greatest spectator sports, the Appalachian Bike Classic held every year at the Calhoun County Park. Visitors old and young can easily find a parking or sitting place to catch the rambunctious action created by energetic mountain bikers from around the country. This years event is scheduled for June 16. A favorite non-competitive event is the pond jump, which becomes more popular with the crowd every year.

It is one of the fastest growing and most popular mountain bike races in West Virginia. The race is sanctioned by the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association as a point-series race.

The venue has a great "down home" feel so welcomed by past attendees. This years event will provide arts and crafts, bike clinics, course pre-rides, plus the big pond jump sponsored by Mid-State Auto Supply.

Some of the sponsors for this years event are Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Jim Morris of Calhoun Realty, Megazound, Grantsville Lions Club, John Oshoway, Attorney at Law, Houchin Construction, J & B Rexall Drug and the Vienna Bike Shop.

The event needs more sponsors and financial contributions. To help or inquire, you may call Donnie Price at 354-7818 or Steve Johnson at 354-6404.
