FLASHBACK - From The Morris Bower Collection

(03/03/2003)

It was after midnight in 1942 that Calhoun County High School burned in the early morning hours of February 21. Fire broke out in the basement and quickly spread throughout the structure.

Grantsville did not have a fire department, only a hose cart used to clean the streets. The entire structure was gutted, but the walls remained structurally sound and were used to rebuild the facility.

Original photos scanned by Delma (Bower) Atkinson.
