WIRT'S ERICA DYE PLACE WINNER IN WRESTLING TOURNEY - "I Like To Be Competitive"

(02/26/2001)

Wirt Counties 103-pound wrestler Erica Dye (35-7) has just made state wrestling history by becoming the first female to become a place-winner. The Wirt High junior had earlier snatched the 112-pound title at the 37th Little Kanawha Conference Wrestling Tournament.

Dye was competing at the State Wrestling Tournament in Huntington this weekend, the fourth girl to ever compete in a state meet. She won one of two matches in Saturday's Class AA-A consolidations and finished fourth.

Dye says she likes to wrestle to be competitive, after being given a big ovation by the wrestling crowd.
