A Faith You Can Trust #2

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

What Faith Enables Us To Do. In Hebrews 11, the great faith chapter of The Bible, the inspired writer first defines faith, then goes on to tell us some things faith enables us to do.

See The Invisible. Through faith we can see The Unknown Future: “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house…” (Hebrews 11:7).

Through faith we can see The Unreceived Promises: “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off…” (Hebrews 11:13).

Through faith the can see The Unseen God: “By faith he (Moses) forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:27). We, too, can see: The Unknown Future, The Unreceived Promises, and The Unseen God through the eye of faith. Faith enables us to see that which is invisible to the natural eye.

Believe The Incredible. Through faith we can believe in The Creation: “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God…” (Hebrews 11:3).

Through faith we can believe in The Resurrection: “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac..Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead…” (Hebrews 11:17, 19). To our knowledge, Abraham had never seen anybody raised from the dead, but his faith enabled him to believe that God was able.

Through faith we can believe in The Miracles: “By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land…By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days…” (Hebrews 11:29, 30).

Our faith, too, enables us to believe in The Creation, The Resurrection, and The Miracles, those things which many people seem to find incredible.

Achieve The Impossible. Faith enables The Dead To Speak: “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain…and by it he being dead yet speaketh…” (Hebrews 11:4). Though dead for centuries, Abel is still telling us today that we had better worship God as He directs.

Faith also enables A Man Not To Die. “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death…” (Hebrews 11:5).

Faith also enables The Barren To Conceive: “Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed…” (Hebrews 11:11).

Our faith, too, enables us to achieve things which would otherwise be impossible.
