Reach For The Sky #1

Reach For The Sky. That sounds like something you might hear in a western movie, but it can also be an encouragement to reach your highest potential in life. Most folks seem content just to be average and ordinary. They either do not have the drive to go the extra mile, or they have somehow been led to believe that they do not have what it takes to be successful in life. Everybody has dreams of what they would like to do or like to be, but few have the vision and the drive to bring those dreams to reality.

Dreams And Visions. Much has been written about dreams and visions. “There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.” “Man alone has the power to transform his thoughts into physical realty; man alone can dream and make his dreams come true.” “Dreams are what gets you started. Discipline is what keeps you going.” “You see things as they are and say, Why? I dream things that never were and say, Why not?” And it was Helen Keller, who was blind, who said: “The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but has no vision.”

The Abundant Life. There are a number of ways of stating the Lord’s purpose in coming to earth, one of which is: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. What’s He talking about. Folks were already living long before He came. Apparently He is talking about a life that is above the average and ordinary, and indeed He is. He came to show us how to get the best out of the life He has given us here, and at the same time given us a vision of a life that extends far beyond this life.

The Vision. He has given us a vision of a world far beyond this world, a world free from all the trials and tribulations, the sorrows and disappointments, the pain and suffering that characterizes our lives here. The question is, do we have the drive, do we have the determination, do we have the discipline to make that dream a reality? Are our affections set on things of that life above, or on things of this life here on earth? (Colossians 3:2). Are we investing our blessings and possessions in things of this life here on earth, or transferring them to treasures in heaven? (Matthew 6:19-20).

Wait Upon The Lord. “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31). So hitch your wagon to a star. The sky’s the limit. It’s alright to build castles in the air, so long as you take the time and energy to put foundations under them.

Reach For The Sky. There are five attitudes, five character traits we want to discuss in future articles that God has blessed us with, that we can develop, that will enable us to bring our dreams into reality.
