When Good Men Do Nothing #5

Our Problem. Since actions proceed from the heart (Proverbs 23:7; Matthew 15:19-20), as a nation, we have allowed certain attitudes to develop through the years that have created many of the problems we face today. We have a heart problem. We need “an attitude adjustment”. In addition to those who seem bent on obtaining Wealth without Work, Pleasure without Conscience, and Knowledge without Character, there are those who want to enjoy…

Commerce Without Morality. Many are those who buy and sell and trade without one shred of honesty or decency. Their philosophy seems to be, “What is yours is mine if I can get it.” They may have the decency not to use violence to take what you have, but if they can beat you in a “horse trade”, they seem to have no second thoughts.

Hollywood peddles all sorts of violence and immorality with no thought of what it is doing to the nation. Drug pushers have no thought nor concern about the lives they destroy. Same is true for those who peddle alcoholic beverages. They seem to care nothing about the slaughter on the highways, the broken homes, the dysfunctional families, and the broken lives their products cause.

America is filled with con artists, out to make an easy buck with no concern for the consequences of their actions. Commerce without Morality.

An Attitude Adjustment. America needs an attitude adjustment. The One who made us and blessed this great nation, gives us some guidelines as to how to avoid most of these problems we face, as well as how to enjoy a rich, full, abundant life.

Labor For The Spiritual. “Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.” (John 6:27). In other words: Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven rather than on earth. (Matthew 6:19-21).

Labor To Give. “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.” (Ephesians 4:28). It really is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35).

Plan With God. “Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow….For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” (James 4:13-15). Commerce with God’s blessing. When will we, as a nation, learn that God’s Way is better than our own?
