Former Calhoun High School football coach Donald Franklin Weaver (1931-2014) has died in Virginia Beach VA.|
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
Weaver often said "Thank God for the GI Bill, or I would have never gotten a college education."
He is the last of six Weaver brothers with deep roots in Calhoun County. He often returned to hunt, visit and attend the alumni reunion.
He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1948, graduated from Glenville State College in West Virginia with a BA in Biological Science and Physical Ed. in 1953. He served in U.S. Army from June 1953 – 1955.
He graduated from WVU in 1956 with a Master of Science degree. He taught and coached football at his Alma Mater, Calhoun High from 1962 – 1968, served as a Biology teacher and football coach at Bayside High from 1970 – 1985 and then retired from Kellam H.S. after 40 years of teaching and coaching in 1997.
He is a member of Masonic Lodge, Eureka #40 of Grantsville, WV since 1955 and is a member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner with Khedive Temple in Chesapeake, VA and Haygood United Methodist Church.
