An estimated 40,000 people gathered in Washington for the Forward on Climate Rally on the National Mall.
Climate Change has been politically polarized in the US, some holding to studies that call it a hoax, to those who believe that life on earth is threatened with the emitting of fossil fuel by-products that will not only affect weather, safety, health, but life itself.
Most of the world's leading scientists on the matter have gone on record regarding the threat, with the US government holding back on signing onto the issue.
During the last presidential campaign, it was not mentioned as a burning issue.
Science seems to have taken a back seat with opponents, claiming it is an uncontrollable "act of God," an unpreventable cycle of Mother Nature.
Attending the rally with Calhouner Mark Geiger, I kept thinking about spending time with Alaskan Athabaskan tribal elder Kenny Thomas a few years ago, who was outraged about "the lower 48s" stance on the environment and Climate Change.
“It is about life and living things, no matter what we’re led to believe,” Thomas said.

During Sunday's rally, Thomas Steyer, a San Francisco billionaire, said
“I feel like the guy in the movie who goes into the diner and says, ‘There are zombies in the woods and they’re eating our children.’ ”
In West Virginia, where coal has been king, the reaction of customers in the diner would likely be, as long as they're not taking our jobs.
Most are not going to worry about zombies, toxic sludge, mercury in the water or polluted air.
350.org founder Bill McKibben said, “For 25 years our government has basically ignored the climate crisis. Now people in large numbers are finally demanding they get to work."
"We shouldn't have to be here, science should have decided our course long ago," he said.
Certainly, when we look at how humankind is eating-up our natural resources and cluttering our environment with our cast-off debris like there is no tomorrow, the extractors and government minions lend their hand to support our society of conspicuous consumption.
Conspicuous consumption is the short-sighted use of resources, products and entertainment to enhance creature comfort, upon which the nation's economy is built.
When things go bad with that consumption, politicians blame each other, deny science and fail to protect the essence of life.
