Accident Reflects Changing Times in 1921

(01/20/2002)

Transcribed by Norma Knotts Shaffer from microfilm of the Calhoun Chronicle dated 7/14/1921.

A rather serious automobile accident occurred in the lower end of town Thursday evening when a car owned by Albert Mathews and driven by Miss Vinnie Stallman got out from under control and ran into a horse ridden by Oke Norman.  In an unsuccesful attempt to keep from hurting Mr. Norman the car was turned into the bank and was badly broken up.  Mr. Norman received painful injuries.  There is nothing looks prettier to us than a sweet young lady driving a car (unless it is the same girl mixing up biscuits) and we believe all of them should learn to drive.  But we respectfully suggest that the less used roads be adopted as learning grounds.
