* Thursday, April 16th, the Roane County Softball team took advantage of Calhoun Softball errors and handed the Red Devils their 1st loss of the season. The final score was Roane 7 and Calhoun 4. Godbey was the winning pitcher for Roane Co. and Dani Church picked up the loss for the Red Devils. In seven innings pitched Dani had 9 strike outs but also gave up 4 hits and 9 bases on balls. Hitting for Calhoun was as follows: Dani Church 1-4 with an RBI; Katie Hupp 1-2 with an RBI; Tiff Hall 1-4 with an RBI; and Ashley Knight 1-2.

The Calhoun JV Softball team won its 4th game of the season, remaining unbeaten at 4-0. The final score was Calhoun JV 11---Roane County JV 1. Pitcher Ashley King picked up her 3rd win of the season. She had 4 strike outs and gave up 3 walks. The JV hitters were: Grace Keaffaber 2-3 with 2RBIs; Courtney McKown 2-2 with 2 RBIs; Tosh Shock 1-1 with 2 RBIs; Jeanette Starcher 1-2 with an RBI; Whitney Johnson 2-2 with an RBI; Kara Sears 1-2 with an RBI; Trish Siers 1-2 with an RBI.

* Friday, April 16th saw the Calhoun Softball team defending itís home turf against Parkersburg Catholic. The Red Devils knocked off the Crusaders by a score of 10-4. Dani Church pitched 7 innings, striking out 11 batters while only giving up 4 hits and 6 bases on balls. Big Sticks for the game were: Dani Church 2-4; Ashli Cottrell 2-4 with a double; Jess Heiney 1-2; Andrea Hardway 1-2 with 3 RBIs; Ashley King 2-4 with 2 RBIs; Ashley Knight 2-3 a double and 3 RBIs; Mallory Hopkins 3-4 and 4 RBIs. Calhoun Softball record is now 5-1.

The Calhoun JV team ran its record to 5 wins and 0 loses with a 20-4 win over the Parkersburg JV team. Ashley King picked up her 4th win of the season. She pitched 3 innings and had 4 strike outs and gave up 8 walks. Her teamís offense helped her overcome the extra walks. The big hitters were Grace Keaffaber 3-3 with a double and 4 RBIs; Courtney McKown 2-3 with 4 RBIs; Jeanette Starcher 1-2 with 2 RBIs; Whitney Johnson 1-2 with 2 RBIs; Trish Siers 1-2 with 2 RBIs.

Saturday, April 17th the Calhoun Softball put forth a huge effort to make a comeback in a game with Braxton County that saw the lead change hands several times. In the 8th inning, we came up a couple runs short and lost our 2nd game of the season to visiting Braxton County 15-13. Dani Church pitched 8 innings in a losing effort. She had 6 strike outs and only 3 walks for the day. Calhoun County out hit Braxton 14 hits to 9. The major difference in the game was the 8 errors that the Red Devils committed. The hitters for the game were: Katie Hupp 2-5 with a double and 2 RBIs; Tiff Hall 3-5 with 2 RBIs; Dani Church 1-5 with a double and 1 RBI; Ashli Cottrell 1-5 with a double and 2 RBIs; Jessica Heiney 1-4 with a double and !RBI; Andrea Hardway 2-3 with an RBI; Mallory Hopkins3-4 with 3 RBIs; Ashley Knight 1-4 with a triple and 1 RBI. * Saturday, April 17th the Calhoun Softball team played the Gilmer Titans for the second time this season. The results were the same as the first go around with Calhoun Varsity winning the game by ten runs. The final score was Calhoun 16 and Gilmer 6. The teamís overall record with this win is now 6-1. Dani Church was the winning pitcher. She pitched 5 inning getting 6 strike outs and had only 3 walks. The big Sticks for the game were: Katie Hupp 2-4, a double with and RBI; Tiff Hall 1-4 with 2 RBIs; Dani Church 3-3 with 1 RBI; Ashli Cottrell driving in 2 RBIs; Jessica Heiney 1-3 with a double and 3RBIs; Mallory Hopkins 1-4 with 2 RBIs.

* Monday, April 19th the Calhoun Varsity Softball team overpowered off visiting Doddridge County 15 to 0. The Red Devils only needed three innings to end the game and extend their record to 7 wins and 2 losses. . Calhoun scored 8 runs in the 1st inning , 6 runs in the second and the final run in the third on 10 hits. Dani Church picked up her seventh win of the season striking out 8 and gave up only 1 hit and 3 walks. Andrea Hardway was 2 for 2 with a double, a home run and 4 RBIís; Katie Hupp was 2-3 with a home run and 1 RBI; Ashley Cottrell went 1-1 with an RBI; Jess Heiney 1-1 with an RBI; Mallory Hopkins 1-1 with an RBI.

The Calhoun JV Softball team followed suit as they also knocked off the Doddridge JV by a score of 25-7. The winning pitcher for the Red Devils was Ashley King. Ashley had 2 strike outs and 3 walks. She recorded her fifth win of the season and helped extend the JVís record to 6 wins and 0 losses. One inning of pitching was recorded by Natasha Shock, 1 strike out and 3 walks, and Jeanette Starcher. Hitting for the JV were: Tosh Shock 1-3 with 3 RBIs; Courtney McKown 2-4 with a double and 3 RBIs; Whitney Johnson 1-2 with a triple and 3 RBIs; Jeanette Starcher 2-2 with 3 RBIs; Kara Sears 1-3 with 3 RBIs; and Trish Siers 1-2 with 2 RBIs.

* Wednesday, April 21st the Calhoun Softball team hit the road and traveled to St Marys High School for two games, one varsity and one junior varsity. Calhoun struggled in the top of the first and fell behind 2-0 but exploded for 7 runs in the second inning and never looked back as they went on to finished off St Marys in six innings by a score of 13-3. The winning pitcher was Dani Church who threw 6 innings. She had 8 strike outs and gave up 3 bases on balls and only 4 hits. In the hitting department, Tiff Hall went 2-4 with two singles; Ashli Cottrell went 2-4 with two doubles.

The Calhoun JV team also fell behind in the first inning by a similar score of 3-0. They turned up the heat in the next few innings and beat St Marys JV by a score of 13-4. The Calhoun Varsity now has a record of 8 wins and 2 losses and the Calhoun JV has a record of 7 wins and no losses. The winning pitcher was Ashley King. Hitters for the JV were: Jeanette Starcher 1-3 with 2 RBIs; Ashley Knight 1-1 with a double and 2 RBIs; Ashley King 2-2 with 2 RBIs. The Calhoun JV Softball teamís record is now 7-0. Their next game is a road game against Clay County on April 28th .

* Saturday, April 24th the Calhoun Softball team traveled to neighboring Glenville to play Braxton County in the first game of a double header. Once again the Eagles were able to take the Red Devils out of their game plan and handed Calhoun its 3rd loss of the season by score of 7-2. Winning pitcher was J. Bostic for Braxton County. She pitched 7 innings striking out 7 and gave up no walks. The losing pitcher for the Red Devils was Dani Church. Dani pitched 6 innings and had 7 strike outs and gave up 3 walks. The Red Devils out hit the Eagles 8 to 4 but the deciding factor in the game was the 7 errors committed by Calhoun players. Calhoun hitter were: Dani Church 2-4 with an RBI; Ashley Knight 2-3; Ashli Cottrell 1-3; Jessica Heiney 1-3; Tiff Hall 1-4 and Katie Hupp 1-3 with an RBI.

* Saturday, April 24th the Calhoun Softball team played Gilmer County in the second half of their double header. Calhoun trailed for 3 inning before tying the game at 4 to 4. By the end of the sixth inning Gilmer County had pulled in front by a score of 9-7. The Red Devils scored 2 runs in the top of the 7 inning to knot the score at 9-9 and send the game into extra innings. In their half of the 8th inning the Red Devils scored twice making the score 11-9. This proved to be the final score as Calhoun held Gilmer scoreless in the bottom of the 8th inning. The winning pitcher was Dani Church. Dani pitched 6 1/3 innings with 6 strike outs and 8 walks. Ashley King also pitched 1 2/3 innings for the Red Devils. She had 2 strike outs and gave up 1 walk. Calhoun county had 13 hits during the game and had only 2 errors. The Calhoun hitters were: Dani Church 3-5, 1 home run and 4 RBIs; Andrea Hardway 3-5; Ashley King 3-5 with an RBI; Tiff Hall 2-5 with 2 RBIs; Jessica Heiney 2-5 with an RBI.

* Calhoun Softballís record as of April 24th is now 9 wins and 3 losses. The next set of games scheduled for Calhoun Softball:

Tuesday, April 27th at Mt. Zion. We will complete the game that was suspended on March 30th. Once we complete those final three innings we will begin the varsity game that was already scheduled for April 27th. Game time is 4:30 pm.

Wednesday, April 28th at Clay. We travel to Clay County to play the Panthers at 4:30.

Thursday, April 29th at West Union. We travel to Doddridge Co to play the Bulldogs at the County Park. Itís a 5:00 start.

Friday, April 30th at Parkersburg. We travel to the fields on Rosemar Rd. to play Parkersburg Catholic HS. Game time is 5:00. JV game to follow the Varsity game.

Saturday, May 1st at Mt. Zion. We host a triple header on the ridge. Our game times will be 10:00 against St Marys and 2:00 against Clay Co. The 12:00 game will feature St Marys playing Clay Co.

Monday, May 3rd at Mt Zion. We have a home game with Elk Valley Christian HS. Game time is 4:30. A Varsity and JV game will be played.

Tuesday, May 4th at Mt Zion. We host the Wirt County Tigers for Varsity and JV games. Starting time is 4:30.

Wednesday, May 5th at Flatwoods. We travel to Braxton County to play a Varsity and JV game with the Eagles. Game time is 4:30.

Thursday, May 6th at Mt Zion. In our final regular season game we play Williamstown. Game time is 4:30. A Varsity game will be played, it is uncertain if a JV game will be played.

All of the above games should result in a good time. Bring a bag chair, relax, have fun and cheer on your Red Devils.
