For the Calhoun County High School girl’s team it was a matter of saving its “bestest” for “lastest.”
That’s what happened Thursday night when the Red Devils scored a 49-40 victory over Ravenswood in the LKC game for 11th and 12th place. With the loss Ravenswood falls to last in the LKC for the 2003-2004 season. Calhoun finishes one spot higher.
Calhoun was in command most of the way and held a big lead in the fourth quarter when Red Devils coach Doyle Hupp unloaded the bench allowing everyone a chance to play and Ravenswood a chance to close the margin to nine.
Dani Church led the 3-16 Red Devils with 21 points while Katie Hupp and Courtney McKown had eight apiece. Amber Williams added six while Ashley King got five and Casey Westfall one.
For Ravenswood, 1-18, Jennifer Wolfe had a game high 26.
Calhoun had 26 rebounds with Williams leading the way with 10. The Red Devils had nine assists with Hupp getting five. Calhoun had eight steals with Hupp leading the way with five. McKown had half of Calhoun’s eight blocked shots.
Calhoun will be busy Saturday with an 11 a.m. game at St. Marys followed by some of its team members participating in the LKC Night of Champions at Parkersburg. Hupp will represent Calhoun in the three-point shooting contest while Church will be the team representative in the free throw contest. Church will also represent Calhoun as the team’s scholar athlete.
