CMS MONDAY NIGHT BASKETBALL - One Win, One Loss, Both Close

The Calhoun Middle School Boy's Basketball team traveled to Left Hand, Roane County Monday evening, to take on the Geary Panthers.

In the "B" game the lead changed hands several times before Geary squeaked out a 29 to 28 win.

Scoring for Calhoun:

Jeremy Conley with 8 points, 2 rebounds and 5 steals

Brandon Cottrell with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals

Josh Cain with 4 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals

Ethan Collins with 4 rebounds and 4 steals

John Sampson with 3 points, 18 rebounds and 2 steals

Justin Gerwig with 1 rebound

Kyle Keesler with 1 rebound and 1 steal

Danny Burkett with 1 steal

In the "A" game each team held leads of 5 or more points only to have the other team come fighting back. In the 4th quarter Calhoun found itself down by 5, before buckling down and holding Geary to 1 point over the last 4 minutes. With 23 seconds left, Calhoun got the ball trailing 43 to 44.

Zach Moore got the rebound off of Chance Hardway who mis-shot, and put it back in with 3 seconds left.

Geary tried a long pass but the ball went out of bounds off their player's hands, insuring Calhoun the 45 to 44 win.

Calhoun got another balanced scoring night, with John Dodd getting his third straight double-double, with 11 points, 17 rebounds and 4 steals.

Matt Houchin with 7 points 2 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists

Andrew Norman with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists

Zach Moore with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists

Jesse Keesler with 2 points 4 rebounds and 2 steals

Chance Hardway with 4 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal

The last home game will be Monday, February 9, beginning at 6 p.m. against Spencer. Come out and support the team.

CMS BASKETBALL RAFFLE - Calhoun Middle School Basketball is selling tickets for a Mossberg Model 835 Ulti-Mag Turkey Shotgun. The tickets will be on sale until the night of the drawing on April 24, 2004 during the Middle School Sport Banquet at 6 p.m.

All proceeds will be used on trophies and items for the basketball team. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The winner of the gun will pick it up at Gary's Sporting in Spencer and do the necessary paperwork. For more information, call Charles and June Sampson at 354-9129.
