For the second straight game Zach Houchin stepped up with the game on the line.
Houchin hit a clutch basket with 5.6 seconds left to break a tie and lift Calhoun County to a 63-61 victory over Braxton County Friday night.
The game was a see-saw affair throughout with the Red Devils grabbing lead late on a three-point play by Tristan Harris only to have the
Eagles tie it at 61-61 on a 3-point goal by Andrew Tanner setting up what looked to be a possible overtime.
But Houchin’s basket ended that possibility and lifted Calhoun to 7-3 on the season. Braxton dropped to 5-6 overall after suffering its second
loss of the year to the Red Devils.
Houchin led the way with 18 points while Marcus Davis added 17 to the Red Devils who were playing without starting guard Mike Batten.
Jake Perkins added 1 for the Red Devils while Harris finished with 11.
Shawn Hillegas added three and Derek Roberts two for Calhoun. Ryan ‘Goob’ Fitzwater, Tommy Gerwig and Chad Conley did not score.
Calhoun is idle until Monday night when it plays host to Webster County.
