INTERCEPTED LETTER - Calhoun's Broadband Woes, Frontier Falls Short

Mitch B. Carmichael, Frontier General Manager, Parkersburg WV

Mike Sims, General Manager, Central WV

You graciously came to Grantsville to meet several weeks ago, giving assurances that Frontier would be improving broadband service to Calhoun and the rural counties of central West Virginia.

We discussed long-term efforts toward bringing real broadband to our under-served areas, despite the fact we are already paying premium fees for such service.

We praised the dutiful Frontier workers, most who have been long-time employees and have always gone beyond their job description to help your local customers.

It is sad that West Virginia is dead last with broadband access and speed, and the US is ranked far below a dozen or more countries.

You declared that Frontier understood and was committed to bringing the necessary infrastructure to Calhoun and our regional counties, edging us closer to 21st century technology.

You advised that improved services would be coming soon, and that you would give a detailed written description about what our citizens (customers) could expect from Frontier during 2011.

I'm really disappointed you have not been forthcoming with the information you promised.

Your press release last year carried more than substantial promises about what Frontier is going to do for WV, that by the end of 2011, 85% of all residents would have broadband. I'm assuming REAL broadband, not the low-speed broadband we now "enjoy."

I joked with you, saying when I heard that announcement, I made a quick assumption Calhoun and the regional under-populated counties would likely be in the left behind 15%."

Apparently we are.
