ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - FINISHED FLAG WILL BE 3x5 FEET
1. Entry must have been designed by entrant.
2. Competition is open to Calhoun County residents or former residents.
3. Entry must have been designed exclusively for this contest.
5. Entry must arrive at the Calhoun Chronicle office in person or with a
postdate of May 1, 2008.
6. Design must include the following components:
a. County name, Calhoun County.
b. State name, West Virginia.
c. Theme or motto. *Some ideas may come from this list: Positive things about Calhoun, people are industrious and ingenious, caring people, love of land, small farms, festivals, dark skies, rivers, hills, back roads, biking, land that I love, hunting and fishing, valleys, oil and gas, timber, woods, forest, molasses, ramps, farmers market …. you may also see the attached page for websites and an example flag.

7. Submission materials must include:
A. One (1) completed submission form.
B. One (1) completed Flag Design Challenge release form.
C. One color copy of design. FINISHED FLAG SIZE WILL BE 3x5 FEET. YOUR DESIGN MUST FIT WITHIN THOSE DIMENSIONS. DESIGN MAY BE HAND-DRAWN OR COMPUTER IMAGE (Jpeg). HAND-DRAWN DESIGN SHOULD BE AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE OR IT WILL NOT REPRODUCE TO A LARGER SIZE.
D. Artist’s bio or resume (small explanation of art experience).
8. There is no limit to the number of entries. Artist may submit more than one design for consideration.

10. The design chosen to go on the flag will be announced at the Wood Festival.
JUDGING
Entries will be judged by members of the: Town Improvement Committee, Historical So-ciety, and approved by the County Commission. Criteria taken into consideration is as follows: uniqueness, structure, and style of the flag design; creative use of County ele-ments (theme, colors, name); production values and professionalism of work.
PRIZES
One grand prize of $50.00 will be given. The winner will also receive the privilege of having their design become the official flag of the county; a special commemoration at the unveiling of the flag during a date to be announced.
IF YOUR DESIGN IS SELECTED:
1. Artist agrees that he/she will work together with the Town Improvement Commit-tee to properly convey all the details of the design to the selected company who will be making the flag.
2. Artist agrees that the Town Improvement Committee will be the sole copyright owner of the design and reserves the right to modify design if needed.

I certify that the design which I am submitting to the Town Improvement Committee is original and I hold all rights to the design necessary for submission and that the design and I meet all of the eligibility requirements for the Calhoun County Flag Design Chal-lenge. I acknowledge that the Town Improvement Committee may receive other designs that are similar to the design or the ideas expressed in the design that I am submitting. I further certify that no rights in the design have been transferred. I understand that I may not transfer any rights, including the copyright, in the design if my design is selected as the winner.
I hereby authorize the Town Improvement Committee to use the publicity information (bio or resume) submitted by me, or on my behalf, in their marketing and publicity efforts in connection with the winner of the Flag Challenge, if I am chosen as the winner.
I UNDERSTAND THAT EXCEPT AS PROVIDED FOR UNDER THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS OF THE CALHOUN COUNTY FLAG DESIGN CHALLENGE NEITHER THE TOWN IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE, NOR ANY OTHER PARTY, SHALL BE UNDER ANY OBLIGATION TO COMPENSATE OR CREDIT ME IN ANY WAY FOR THE USE OF THE DESIGN BEYOND THE $50.00 PRIZE AND I HEREBY IRREVOCABLY RELEASE AND DISCHARGE THE TOWN IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE, IT’S LICENSEES, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS FROM ANY CLAIMS WHICH I NOW HAVE OR MAY EVER HAVE, FROM OR RELATING TO ANY USE OF THE DESIGN.
I HAVE READ THIS RELEASE CAREFULLY AND I UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENTS. No representations have been made to me other than those set forth in this Release and this Release states my entire understanding with reference to the design.
