John Wilbert Elliott, 91 - Millstone

John Wilbert Elliott, 91, of Millstone, W.Va., passed away July 31, 2015, at Camden Clark Medical Center.

John was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Calhoun County, son of the late Alva and Clara Haught Elliott.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Stump Elliott; two daughters, Renae Vannoy (Ron) of Mineral Wells, W.Va., and Shelia Elliott of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and a sister, Eula Elliott, of Parkersburg, W.Va. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Nelson Elliott, of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Avis Elliott and Melba Elliott of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and one brother, Hulbert Elliott, of San Bernardino, Calif.

John was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He retired from Pennzoil after 31 years of service, and was previously employed by Cabot. He was a member of the Masons, Eureka Lodge No. 40, and the IOOF in Calhoun County.

In addition, he served 17 years on the Calhoun County Board of Education. He loved and played bluegrass and gospel music, and served in various positions at the West Virginia State Gospel Singers Corporation at Mt. Nebo, W.Va. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was inducted into the West Virginia Turkey Hunters Hall of Fame.

The family would like to recognize and thank his loving caretakers, Bambi Davis and Jeanene Hayden.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg, W.Va., with an hour of viewing at 1 p.m. prior to the service. There will also be visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the funeral home.
