Vaughn Luther Rose, 73 - Deming, New Mexico

(10/23/2014)

Vaughn Luther Rose passed away at home Tuesday, October 14, 2014.

He was born and raised at Rosedale, WV, and graduated Normantown High School in 1959. He went to Ohio to find work and met Carol Costilow at Leavittsburg, OH. They married June 2, 1961. They later moved to Pennsboro, WV, where Vaughn farmed, cut timber, and recycled junk cars. He enjoyed deer and 'coon hunting. While there they were blessed to adopt Stacie in 1972.

Vaughn served in the Army 1966 to 1968 at Ft. Jackson, SC; Ft. Bragg, NC; and had medical training at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.

Looking for a warmer climate, they moved to McKenzie, TN, in 1977. After a year of farming and raising feeder pigs there, Vaughn knew he needed a dry climate. They researched locations from Texas to Arizona and settled in Deming in 1979. Vaughn worked on a ranch at Akela until 1984 where he worked cattle roundups, repaired and operated equipment, ran a one-man-sawmill, made adobes, and helped build the owner's house. He obtained a business license as Rose's Enterprises and did mechanic work, backhoe work and metal recycling.

The family enjoyed traveling when they could to visit family and friends back east, as well as sight seeing in New Mexico and Arizona. They enjoyed taking family sightseeing when they visited. Several of Carol's family relocated to Deming.

In 2007 Vaughn was diagnosed with cancer. He continued to work as long as he was able while getting treatment.

Vaughn is survived by Carol and Stacie; brothers, George (Sandra) and Clarence (Dreama) Rose; sisters, Virginia (Edwin) Ulderich, Laura (John) Gribble, Nancy (John) Welch, Mary (Roger) Foutty, Louise (Leary) VanHorn; brothers-in-law, Gary Nichols and Lane Costilow; sisters-in-law, Karen Colley, Mary (Randy) Pulley, Rosalie Bennett, Lucille (Danny)Younger, Kathy Karr, and Genia (Tom) Allison; Aunt Ruth Mullins Zimora; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey Gordon and Stella Mullins Rose; infant brother, Charles; sisters, Genevra Call and husband Clarence, Emma Nichols, and Nina Conrad and husband Glenn; sister-in-law Emolene Dobbins Rose.

Vaughn was a member of the Church of Christ. He loved his family, friends, church family as well as people he "adopted" as family, Wendy, Olida, Yadira, Ilda, Maria, and Thomas and their families.

The family wish to thank Rosalie who stayed in the home to help care for Vaughn; nurses Dan, Yvonne and Diane and Carol and Lisa of AmberCare Hospice who were of such comfort the last weeks. Thank all of you who sent cards, called, visited and prayed with and for us.

Cremation has taken place with Terrazas Funeral Chapel.

A memorial service will be held at Ninth Church of Christ, 500 S. 9th St., on Friday, October 24 , 2014, at 1:00 p.m.
